KAM’MWAMBA AIDS SUPPORTIVE, ORPHAN CARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION 2006-07 LAST HALF-YEAR REPORT
KASOCO is proud to share with you the last half-year report of its work during its third planning year April 2006 – April 2007. This report summarises the progress and outcome of activities carried out by KASOCO in accordance to its 5 year Strategic Plan for the period 2006 – 2111. KASOCO is a fast growing organisation, necessitated by the needs on the ground. KASOCO work is now covering the whole area of TA Phambala and some parts of STA Tsikulamowa in Ntcheu south. The volunteer spirit of KASOCO members is keeping the organisation going on despite not having external funding or technical support. The main activity that took place during this period has been the realisation of the 2nd edition of KASOCO’s Shooting HIV-AIDS Out of Ntonda Football and Netball League. This years’ league was a phenomenal success. More than 300,000 people cumulatively watched the games. 89,208 youths took part in anti-AIDS club meetings. The direct impact of the league and the anti-AIDS meetings has been the increase in the number of people undergoing for voluntary testing and counselling at Kapeni VCT Centre. There has been a 400% increase from 22 per month in February 2006 to 88 per month in February 2007. All this good work notwithstanding, accessing external funding remains a very big challenge for KASOCO. Small organisations like KASOCO, cannot go it alone both financially and technically. The immense work in the fight against HIV-AIDS in Ntcheu South requires the urgent involvement and partnership with other organisations. These organisations can now count on KASOCO as a serious and competent grassroots partner. KASOCO experience herein summarised underlines KASOCO’s commitment to the empowerment and involvement of the youth in the fight against HIV-AIDS. The youth must be empowered to take their own responsibility in designing and implementing ways of fighting against HIV-AIDS.
